As technology and knowledge evolves, so do the industries towards which entrepreneurs gravitate. Over the last few years, new businesses have popped up to service the growing energy and manufacturing sector in Sturgeon Region. The professional, scientific, and technical industry sector (NAICS 54) grew by 27 percent in Alberta from 2006 to 2011, illustrating our continued march toward a more technical workforce. Although the sector makes up only 8 percent of the County's workforce, it was responsible for 4 percent of the region's job growth from 2006 to 2011. The Professional, scientific and technical services sector is increasingly playing a pivotal role in providing administrative, consultative and technical services to large enterprises within the Sturgeon County’s core sectors. Our main intent is to enable collaboration and strategic approaches in emerging sectors to identify opportunities, challenges and priorities.
