City of St. Albert & Sturgeon County hold initial meeting of Recreation Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework Task Force
The City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County held the first meeting of their Recreation Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF) Task Force on April 5, 2019.
The project is intended to identify shared recreational opportunities and challenges for the two municipalities. The Task Force will also develop mechanisms to address these opportunities and challenges in a collaborative manner.
At the initial meeting, the City and County discussed the values and principles of collaboration required to move the project forward. The Task Force also appointed Sturgeon Mayor Alanna Hnatiw and St. Albert Councillor Ken MacKay as Co-Chairs.
“Sturgeon County and the City of St. Albert have been working collaboratively on a number of initiatives over the past few years and we look forward to a similar approach for the Recreation Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework,” says Sturgeon County Mayor Alanna Hnatiw.
“The City of St. Albert has much in common with Sturgeon County and these types of frameworks are helpful in focusing our discussions and identifying areas of mutual benefit,” says Councillor Ken MacKay.
The Municipal Government Act mandates that the City and County must have a Recreation ICF in place by April 1, 2020. The next Recreation Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework Task Force meeting is scheduled to take place in May 2019.
